Terre Haute native Alfred Conrad was a lieutenant in the 82nd Airborne when he was killed during Operation Market Garden in Holland, during World War II. The articles displayed here were in the possession of his twin brother, Henry, and obtained from Henry’s widow after his death. The exhibit includes Alfred’s jump jacket, patches from his time with the 82nd Airborne, silver star and purple heart, along with a book with Alfred’s photo, and a scrapbook with newspaper clippings denoting his service. More items from Alfred’s military service are on display in the military section of the Vigo County History Center.
