Captain Eugene Fowler of Terre Haute was the first Vigo County resident killed in the Vietnam War. Located in southern Vigo County, Fowler Park is named for Fowler, who was sent to Vietnam as an advisor during the war and killed by a land mine there. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.

This display includes Fowler’s dress visor hat, captain’s helmet, and scratch of his name from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington DC.
